Educational Qualification

For all APPSC Group 1 Services posts (except post-specific requirements noted below):

  • Basic Qualification: Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from a recognised university (or equivalent). The degree must be obtained by the application deadline.
  • DSP (Civil) Category-II: Degree + prescribed physical fitness standards (height and weight).
  • Assistant Commissioner of State Tax: Degree (preference may be given to Commerce/Law graduates — verify from notification).

There is no specification of minimum marks in the degree. Any stream (Arts, Science, Commerce, Engineering, Law) is acceptable for most posts.

🏆 Selection Process

APPSC Group 1 2026 selection has three stages:

  1. Stage 1 – Preliminary Examination (Screening Test): Two papers — Paper I and Paper II, each with 120 MCQ questions, 120 marks, 120 minutes. Topics: Current Affairs, Indian Polity, History, Geography, Economy, Science & Technology, AP History & Culture, Mental Ability. Negative marking: –1/3 per wrong answer. Qualifying marks: 30% for OC/EWS, 25% for reserved categories. Screening Test marks do not count in the final merit. Used solely for shortlisting for Mains.
  2. Stage 2 – Main Examination: Descriptive (essay-type) exam with 7 papers. Five merit papers × 150 marks each = 750 merit marks. Plus two qualifying language papers (Telugu and English — must score minimum qualifying marks but do not add to merit). Total merit from Mains = 750 marks. No negative marking.
  3. Stage 3 – Interview / Oral Test: 75 marks. Assesses personality, communication, and decision-making. Final merit = Mains (750) + Interview (75) = 825 marks total.
