The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) recruits Junior Engineers (JE) for central government departments through the SSC JE Paper-I and Paper-II examinations. Educational Qualification

Candidates must hold one of the following qualifications in the relevant engineering discipline (Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical):

  • Option 1: B.E. / B.Tech degree from a recognised university or institution in the relevant branch of engineering.
  • Option 2: Three-year Diploma in the relevant branch of engineering from a recognised polytechnic or institution.

Some departments (e.g., CWC) additionally require 2 years of relevant post-qualification work experience for diploma holders. Candidates must verify department-specific requirements from the official notification.

Age Limit 18 – 32 years
Age Relaxation Minimum: 18 years. Maximum: 30 years (32 years for some departments like MES). OBC: +3 years. SC/ST: +5 years. PwBD (OH/HH): +10 years. PwBD + OBC: +13 years. PwBD + SC/ST: +15 years. Ex-Servicemen: 3 years after deduction of military service from actual age.

🏆 Selection Process

  1. Paper I (Computer-Based Test): Objective test of 200 marks, 2 hours. Covers General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and General Engineering (branch-specific). Qualifying / merit-based.
  2. Paper II (Computer-Based Test): Technical paper of 300 marks, 2 hours. Covers specialized engineering subjects from the candidate's branch (Civil / Mechanical / Electrical). Only candidates who clear Paper I cutoff are called for Paper II.
  3. Document Verification: Original certificates checked for shortlisted candidates post Paper II merit.
  4. Medical Examination: Final-stage medical fitness test at the appointing department's medical facility.

  2. Register on the SSC One-Time Registration portal if not already done. Note your Registration ID and Password.
  3. Log in and apply for SSC JE 2026 by selecting your engineering discipline (Civil / Mechanical / Electrical).
  4. Fill in your personal, educational, and contact details in the application form.
  5. Upload your passport-size photograph and signature in the prescribed format and file size.
  6. Pay the application fee of Rs. 100 via SBI Challan, Debit/Credit Card, or Net Banking. Female, SC, ST, PwD, and Ex-Servicemen candidates are exempted from fee.
  7. Submit the form, note the application number, and print the confirmation page for future reference.
