Educational Qualification

Candidates must have passed the Secondary School Examination (Class 10th) with Mathematics and English as compulsory or elective subjects from a recognised school Board.

  • No higher education (graduation or above) is required or given extra weightage.
  • Knowledge of local language of the concerned postal division is preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge and proficiency in cycling (for delivery-related GDS posts) may be required depending on the nature of the post.

India Post GDS 2026 selection is entirely merit-based on Class 10 marks. There is no written examination of any kind.

  1. Online Application: Eligible candidates apply through the official portal. They specify their preferred postal circles, divisions, and post preferences.
  2. System-Generated Merit List: The Department of Posts prepares a merit list based on Class 10 marks. If two candidates have the same marks, the preference goes to the older candidate. If age is also the same, the one whose name appears earlier alphabetically is preferred.
  3. Multiple Merit Lists: Multiple merit lists (typically 3–4) are released to fill vacancies left by candidates who do not join or whose documents fail verification. Candidates from one division can also be considered for waitlisted positions in other divisions within the same circle.
  4. Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates must report for physical document verification at the designated Divisional Post Office with all original certificates. Post confirmation, candidates are issued appointment orders.

  4. Fill in your Class 10 details — Board name, year of passing, roll number, and marks obtained in all subjects including Mathematics and English.
  5. Upload your passport-size photograph and signature in the prescribed format.
  6. Pay the application fee of Rs. 100 per circle applied for. SC/ST/Female/Transgender/PwBD candidates are exempted from the fee. Payment via online banking, Debit/Credit Card, or UPI.
