The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) conducts the Combined State / Upper Subordinate Services Examination annually for Group A and Group B gazetted posts in the Uttar Pradesh state government. The 2025 cycle advertised 200 vacancies and the 2026 cycle is expected with Prelims tentatively scheduled for December 6, 2026.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from a recognised Indian university. There is no minimum percentage requirement for the degree.

Candidates must be domiciled in Uttar Pradesh for certain category-based age relaxations and reservations, although all Indian nationals can apply on general merit.

Age Relaxation General/EWS: 21–40 years (as of July 1 of notification year). OBC (UP domicile): up to 43 years (+3). SC/ST (UP domicile): up to 45 years (+5). PwD: up to 55 years (+15). Ex-Servicemen: +5 years. Women (UP domicile, unreserved): +5 years.

🏆 Selection Process

  1. Preliminary Examination (Objective, Qualifying): Two papers. Paper I (General Studies — GS-I): 150 questions, 200 marks, 2 hours. Paper II (CSAT — General Aptitude): 100 questions, 200 marks, 2 hours. Minimum 33% in Paper II required to qualify; Paper II marks not counted in merit.
  2. Main Examination (Descriptive, Merit-based): Eight papers — 6 compulsory (GS I–IV, General Hindi, Essay) and 2 optional papers from a list of 40 subjects. Each paper carries 200 marks, 3 hours. Total written = 1,400 marks.
  3. Interview / Personality Test: 100 marks. Conducted at Allahabad for shortlisted Mains candidates. Assesses administrative aptitude, personality, and communication.
  4. Final Merit: Mains (1,400) + Interview (100) = 1,500 marks total. Post allotment based on merit and post preferences.
