Educational Qualification

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from a recognised Indian university. The degree should be complete (final-year students not eligible).

Candidates must be able to read, write, and speak Bengali. This language requirement is waived for candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali and who reside in the Darjeeling Hills or Siliguri Sub-Division.

Age Limit 20 – 36 years
Age Relaxation Group A/C: 21–36 years. Group B (Police): 20–36 years. Group D: 21–39 years. SC/ST (West Bengal): +5 years. OBC (West Bengal): +3 years. PwD (40%+): maximum age 45 years. No age relaxation for candidates from outside West Bengal. Age as of January 1, 2026.

🏆 Selection Process

  1. Preliminary Examination (June 14, 2026, qualifying, OMR-based): Single paper, 200 questions, 200 marks, 2.5 hours. Covers 8 subjects: English, General Science, Current Events of National & International Importance, History of India, Geography of India and West Bengal, Indian Polity & Economy, National Movement, and General Mental Ability. Negative marking of 0.25 per wrong answer.
  2. Main Examination (merit-based, written): Eight descriptive papers of 200 marks each (1,600 marks total). Includes Language papers (Marathi/English), GS papers, Constitution & Economy, Arithmetic & Reasoning, and Optional Subject (2 papers of 200 marks).
  3. Personality Test (Interview): Group A/B — 200 marks; Group C — 150 marks; Group D — 100 marks.
  4. Final Merit: Based on Mains written + Personality Test score combined.
