🏆 Selection Process

IBPS Clerk 2026 selection involves three stages. Final allotment is based entirely on the Mains exam score — the Mains carries 100% weightage in the merit list.

  1. Preliminary Examination (Qualifying): An online objective test of 100 marks in 60 minutes. Sectional cutoffs and overall cutoffs are applied. Prelims marks are NOT counted in the final merit — only the shortlisting into Mains is based on Prelims.
  2. Main Examination (100% Merit-Based): A comprehensive online objective test of 200 marks in 160 minutes covering five sections. This is the final competitive round — there is no interview. Candidates with higher Mains scores get bank/location preference over lower scorers.
  3. Language Proficiency Test (LPT): Qualifying in nature. Candidates must pass a test in the official language of the state from which they are applying. Those who have studied the official language at Class 10 or 12 level are generally exempted.
