Qualification requirements differ by cadre:

🏆 Selection Process

RBI Grade B 2026 selection is conducted in three phases. Phase 1 is qualifying; merit is determined by Phase 2 and Interview combined.

  1. Phase 1 — Preliminary Examination: Computer-based objective test of 200 questions and 200 marks in 120 minutes. Sections: General Awareness (80 marks), English Language (30 marks), Quantitative Aptitude (30 marks), and Reasoning (60 marks). Negative marking of 0.25 applies. Candidates scoring above the cutoff are shortlisted for Phase 2.
  2. Phase 2 — Main Examination: Three papers, each 100 marks, totalling 300 marks:

    • Paper II — English Writing Skills: 3 descriptive questions (Essay, Précis, Comprehension), 90 minutes

    DEPR candidates take a different Paper III (Development Economics); DSIM candidates take Statistics-based papers in place of Paper I and III.
  3. Interview: 75 marks. A structured interview assessing banking knowledge, economic understanding, communication skills, and overall personality. Minimum qualifying marks: 35 (General/EWS/OBC), 30 (SC/ST/PwBD).

Final Merit: Phase 2 score (300 marks) + Interview score (75 marks) = 375 total marks for ranking.
